Crossings with Afghanistan: Torkham and Chaman
Bol News reported on 4 December 2025 that all trade crossings with Afghanistan had been closed since 12 October 2025 4. It said the Ministry of Commerce decided to let UN humanitarian cargo for UNICEF, the World Food Programme and UNFPA pass through Torkham and Chaman, after consulting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 4. The ministry wrote to the FBR customs operations member and the Directorate General of Transit Trade to clear the cargo 4.
Profit reported on 31 March 2026 that Torkham reopened only for the return of Afghan nationals, after closure since late February 6. It said Pakistan and Afghanistan share 18 border crossings, with Torkham and Chaman the main trade and travel routes 6.
KabulNow reported on 9 August 2026 that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the reopening of crossings and transit routes, citing a Pakistani newspaper 5. It said Pakistani officials had not confirmed the decision, and that Torkham, Spin Boldak and Bahramcha were open only for returning Afghan migrants 5. This guide found no later official notice.
Customs and joint controls on the western border
Pakistan's entries in the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement database name the National Logistics Cell as terminal operator at Torkham 7. The FBR runs an Integrated Transit Trade Management System 7. The database records a Pakistani request, received on 20 February 2026 and approved by the committee, to move its deadline for border agency cooperation to 31 December 2026 7. It reported that space was allocated for Afghan Customs at Torkham and Chaman, with deployment depending on a bilateral arrangement 7.
The FCDO says Afghan border crossings can close at short notice, and that there has been overcrowding and violence at open crossings 2.
Crossings with India: Wagah and Kartarpur
On 24 April 2025 Pakistan's National Security Committee decided to close the Wagah Border Post with immediate effect 3. People who had crossed with valid endorsements could return until 30 April 2025 3. All cross-border transit from India through this route was suspended, and all trade with India was suspended 3.
The FCDO says Wagah is the only official land crossing with India and is closed, but visitors can still attend the daily border ceremony 2. It says the Kartarpur Corridor is not in use for Sikh pilgrims visiting Gurdwara Darbar Sahib 2.
Crossings with Iran: Taftan and Gabd
The Associated Press of Pakistan reported on 9 April 2026 that 10,619 passengers arrived at FIA Taftan between 28 February and 8 April 2026, mostly Pakistanis returning from Iran 8. It said FIA staff were deployed around the clock and operations continued without interruption 8.
Geo News reported on 29 June 2024 that Pakistan's ambassador to Iran said immigration facilities at Taftan and Gabd had been upgraded 9. The report said the two countries had decided the month before to run Taftan and Gabd 24 hours a day 9. The FCDO advises against all travel to Balochistan, where all Iran crossings sit, and says they may close at short notice 2.
Crossing with China: Khunjerab Pass
The FIA lists the Sost land route in its border system 1. Dawn reported on 3 January 2024 that under a 1985 protocol the Khunjerab Pass normally operates from April to November 10. Pakistan Customs officials at the Sost Dry Port cleared cargo during a 14-day trade window from 2 to 16 January 2024 10. China said a year-round opening agreed in October 2023 still had to be signed through diplomatic channels 10.
The FCDO says the pass is open to foreign tourists, typically from April to November, and can close at short notice, often due to snow 2.
